Hanukkah Again
By SethDavisMusic

Original: Hanukkah

Ramblings on a confusing Jewish upbringing and years of formulating values the hard way. Live performance. Directed and edited by Beth Cramer.

screwed in the menorah bulbs to let the neighbors know
That we were special in a coupla ways and maybe even
Chosen to be solemn, saved or something. Daddy never did explain
And never did no Jewish things and now it's Hanukah again

All my friends were celebrating with their tinsel and their trees
But mommy said that we were different and it felt like a disease
While they anticipated reindeer and they waited for st. nick
i told em all there was no santa and they said I was a dick

Well now I've had it with the holidays.
I'm making my decision.
Gonna change my ethnic name and I'll reverse my circumcision
I'll hang mistletoe all over. Gonna get me more than kissing.
Gonna get my catholic/gentile share of that this Jewish boy been missing

Well you know I checked with god and yeah I think she understands
That this is all a lot of drama. I'm a pretty decent man
That I can celebrate just being, if I give I will receive
And though I may not roll with ritual it's alright to believe
because I've had it with the holidays. I'm sick of the division
I have bled my humble Heart begun my own goddamn religion
And there's no sinners, arcs or idols. Just a madman on a mission.
To make manifest the vision I know some of us been wishing

lord, oh I believe in Mondays oh & I believe in truth
& I believe in getting old as much as I believe in youth
U know I believe that legends lies & FAIRYTALES come TRUE
And i will stand up for your stand u know cause I believe in you

I said n I believe in teachers & a lot of what mine said
Yeah & that all this blissful ignorance been going to my head
Ok & I believe that everyone has something up her sleeve
And U should just go on believing that which u need to believe

i believe in charity
& I believe in change
& if we really need a miracle that it can be arranged

I believe in martin, ghandi, dylan, jesus, keller too
& in de niro & in dr seuess
& I believe in you
cause brothers I believe in laughter and oh I believe in rain
And I know everyone's in love and I know everyone's in pain
And I believe my father really would have wanted to believe
But he believed he wasn't good enough and then he had to leave

I said & I believe in color yeah and I believe in good
I believe the earth is one big integrated neighborhood
That's right & I believe in harmony. And lots of sound effects
You know and I believe in chocolate yeah and I believe in sex

I believe working together we can still clean up the mess
And that we can all do much better even if we do our best
I said & i believe the light comes from within NOT from above
& honey i believe in modesty & i believe in love
& now I've had it with the holidays. I'm sick of the division
Gonna state my truth from on the roof
& you all better listen
Get your tickets to behold this non conformity collision
Cause the deeper the hypocrisy the duller the incision

I'm done w all the holidays
not let me make it clear
I've hid behind convention
& I've had it up to here
So I'm disabling philosophy
& stripping the vaneer
& now I'm opening the loving door
& opting out of fear

Because we screwed in the menorah bulbs to let the neighbors know
That we were special in a couple a ways and maybe even
Chosen to be solemn , saved or something. Daddy never did explain
And never did no jewish things and now it's hanukkah again.
